From 17 to 20 June 2026, scholars from across Europe gathered in Venice for the MICOLL final conference, “Have the Gods Fallen? An Interdisciplinary Reconsideration of Lex Mercatoria and Commercial Revolution”. Hosted at the Venice International University on the island of San Servolo, with the opening keynote held at the German Center for Venetian Studies (Centro tedesco di studi veneziani – DSCV) in Palazzo Barbarigo, the conference brought together legal historians, social and economic historians, linguists, and art historians to reflect on some of the central questions that have shaped the MICOLL project.
The conference also provided the opportunity to present Vox Mercatoria, the digital application that will make the Historical Lexicon of Commercial Law (German, Italian, Latin) freely accessible online. As the major conference of the MICOLL project, the event represented both a milestone and a new beginning. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements while opening new avenues for future collaboration and research.
On this page you will find a selection of photographs and a reel capturing some of the most memorable moments of these inspiring days in Venice. In the coming days, we will also release the first episode of Vox Mercatoria, the MICOLL podcast recorded during the conference in the remarkable setting of the historic library of the former San Clemente Hospital on San Servolo Island.
The photographs, video highlights, and the Vox Mercatoria podcast were all produced by Growing Production srl.
